December 26, 2022 and January 2, 2023 Holidays?

Are December 26, 2022 and January 2, 2023 declared as national holidays?

As of this writing, Malacañang Palace is not releasing any Memorandum Circular declaring the above dates as non-working days/ holidays. So it’s a NO.

In the year 2018, Malacañang declared through a memorandum circular no. 55 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medealdea that December 26, 2018 and January 2, 2022 were national holidays. Likewise, work in government offices nationwide was suspended.

To quote from the memorandum,

Further to proclamation Nos. 269 s. 2017 and 555 s. 2018 issued by the President declaring December 25, 2018 (Christmas Day) and January 1, 2022 (New Year’s Day) as regular holidays, respectively, and Memorandum Circular No. 54 s. 2018 suspending work in government offices on January 2, 2022, and in order to give the employees of the government full opportunity to celebrate the holidays with their families and loved ones, work in government offices throughout the country, including government-owned or controlled corporations, government financial institutions, state universities and colleges, local government units, and other agencies and instrumentalities, is also suspended on December 26, 2018.

Meanwhile, those in the line of basic health and services, preparedness and response to disasters and calamities and performance of vital services were not included.
